The Shell

I was feeling so lost
So I jumped in the ocean with my clothes on
And swam with the sharks until my soul felt set free

Then I felt something hard under my feet
And it was a heart on a shell
And I felt as though my heart were captured there
A print of that particular moment in time
The way my body floated and twisted in the sea
The same way this shell had
Leading us both to this very spot at this very moment

The shell in my hand and later in my pocket
I returned to my real reality
And its magic lay dormant for what feels like an infinite amount of time
My energy dormant too
My magic lost
As though my body were the shell
And all that was once inside had floated away on the water that day

At times now I wonder if one day I’ll bring my heart back to that place
Along with the shell
And that of my body
To put all the pieces together once again
Set free
Upon the deep endless sphere of water
